A 22-year-old Cranbrook man has been arrested following a series of crimes from Kimberley to Creston in recent weeks.

The suspect faces nine charges, including theft of a Toyota in Kimberley, theft of a GMC Yukon from Creston, theft of a Hyundai Sante Fe from Gray Creek, break-ins to residential properties and theft and assault with a weapon in Kimberley.

The investigation continues, Cpl. Monty Taylor said on Monday.

 

Police Beat

Creston RCMP responded to 56 calls for service from Oct. 28-Nov. 3, said Const. Dave Skretting.

October 28

•A white Jamis single-speed Durango Sport bike was stolen from a locked garage on Vancouver Street.

•Police are investigating a complaint of threats on Lower Wynndel Road.

•A report of a historical sexual assault is under investigation.

•When police responded to a concern that a female was suicidal, they determined that she was not a threat to herself or others.

October 29

•A break-in to a shed on Channel Road, facilitated by the cutting of a gate lock, resulted in the theft of more than $500 in tools.

•No injuries resulted in a collision between a Honda Accord and Nissan Altima at Canyon Street and 12th Avenue North. Police determined the drivers were equally at fault.

•A tree blew down onto a truck in the 3400 block of Beam Road during a windstorm. Damage is estimated at more than $1,000.

•A female was arrested on Eighth Avenue South under the Mental Health Act.

•A complaint was received about a log truck failing to heed a stop sign at 33rd Avenue and Beam Road. The vehicle was not located.

•A white pickup reported to driving erratically on Pilot Bay Road was not located.

•Two unwelcome males causing a disturbance in a 16th Avenue North residence were gone when police arrived.

October 30

•A 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe was stolen from the 14000 block of Highway 3A in Gray Creek. It was later recovered in Kimberley.

•A Hyundai Accent went off Highway 3 and rolled down a ditch after colliding with a Chrysler Sebring in Erickson. The female driver was removed from the vehicle with the aid of the Jaws of Life and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

•Police are investigating a complaint of harassing phone calls to a female.

•The owner of a nuisance dog running free in the 6200 block of Meadow Creek Road has been notified about the problem.

•A complaint was made about harassing phone calls from a collection agency. The caller said she is not the person the agency is looking for.

•A dispute in a 14th Avenue North parking lot led to police finding a small amount of marijuana on the person of an intoxicated female. She was arrested and held in cells until sober.

•A vehicle was stopped near the Highway 3/3A intersection for not having insurance.

•A suspicious person on Alder Street was not located following a late evening complaint.

•An intoxicated male was arrested and held in police cells until sober.

October 31

•A 92-year-old male died in his home on Bossio Road in Wynndel. The death is not considered suspicious.

•Police are investigating a complaint of a male who breached a peace bond by visiting a female.

•A male who sat in a parked vehicle outside a Helen Street business for three hours was warned to move on.

November 1

•Another in a series of complaints resulting from a neighbours’ dispute in Erickson Road was received.

•Two people were found lying on Highway 3A in Erickson, “talking it out” after an argument. They were advised to take the conversation to a safe location.

•Under investigation is a break-in to a seasonal residence in Kingsgate.

•A female reported to be yelling at customers in a Cook Street business’s parking lot was gone when police arrived.

•A elderly male backed up onto the sidewalk and then collided with the vehicle behind him in a failed attempt to parallel park in the 1200 block of Canyon Street. He then drove away from the scene without stopping. The investigation continues.

•A large number of items valued at more than $5,000 were stolen in a break-in to a residence on Mountain Shores Road near Gray Creek.

•Police are investigating a domestic assault in Lister.

•An Alder Street resident reported fireworks were being thrown from a moving vehicle.

•A male hospital patient told police he was assaulted by two unknown individuals.

November 2

•While police were trying to use GPS to pinpoint the location of a 911 call, they received another report of an assault in progress in the 400 block of Eighth Avenue South. After a forced entry, several attackers went after the resident with weapons including a baseball bat and crowbar. The victim sustained numerous injuries but refused to co-operate with police in identifying the culprits. Police believe the incident was drug-related.

November 3

•Police are attempting to locate the owner of personal items, including a backpack, left at the cabin near Kootenay Pass.

•A tow truck on the way to a towing job caught on fire.
