From February 21 to 23, Special Olympic athletes Dave Bunt and James Warman gave their all in the 2019 Special Olympics BC (SOBC) Winter Games and inspired everyone with their determination, sportsmanship, and joy. The 2019 SOBC’s was the largest provincial winter games yet.

After earning their spots in the 2019 SOBC Games through regional qualifiers in 2018, Dave and James trained hard with their coaches Ryan and Richard in their year-round Special Olympics program in Creston to be able to pursue personal bests.

Both athletes delivered outstanding performances and were a shining example of the way Special Olympics athletes turn the spotlight on abilities and change the way the world sees people with intellectual disabilities.

Dave and James competed with the Kelowna Cougars Floor Hockey team playing 5 games in 2 days with little time to rest and re-hydrate. Their hard work paid off with a gold medal win.

Both athletes thank their coaches for preparing them for success. “We try our best and it is a fun time,” said James. “We thank Vernon for hosting the provincial games.”

Dave and James are headed to the Special Olympic Canada Games in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2020.
