The Creston Valley Rod & Gun Club has made major investments of time and money to maintain the continued use of properties at Mawson Lake and the Kidd Creek Range.

At Mawson Lake, the decades’ old boards which controlled the depth of the lake at its outlet had decayed and were failing to maintain the level of the lake. Club members led by Vice-President, Walter Morse, spent many evenings to lower the water level and replace the aging infrastructure.

A few years ago the Kidd Creek Rifle Range came up for Federal recertification. The rifle range provides an important venue for all 550 members to shoot in a safe environment and receives heavy use year round. New regulations meant that major upgrades were required to the berms that backstop the shooting venues.

First, range chair Shawn Carson met with the inspector to determine exactly what needed to be done. A team of members, led by Tim Wayling, organized material and equipment to raise the berms to the new standards. Despite the first year’s work, the popular .22 silhouette range had to be closed.

This fall a team led by Tim Wayling, Les Buhr and Bill Chiste spent several days clearing and raising both the side and back berms. The Creston Valley Rod & Gun Club are hoping for a quick recertification of the venue.

The Club would like to thank Greg McNeil of YRB for providing the needed material, Eli and Kevin Hedlund of Hedlund Contracting, and Rory Sorenson of Sorenson Tree Service who made it possible to complete this project in the most cost-effective manner.
