Electoral Area C director Adam Casemore, regional fire, and safety experts will be at a community meeting hosted by the RDCK on Thursday, December 6 in the Ramada Conference Room from 6:30-8:30 pm to discuss the 2019 Community Wildfire Protection Plan for RDCK Electoral Area C.

Work is being undertaken to reduce the risk of wildfire to communities and includes three distinct phases: 1) assessment of fire threat to spatially identify those areas most vulnerable or at highest risk of fire, 2) consultation with relevant stakeholders, and 3) development of plans to mitigate identified risks through communication and education programs, structure protection, emergency response, and management of forest lands adjacent to communities.

Topics covered in the meeting are fire history and ecology, regional fire risk, work to date, examples of completed work in the RDCK, landscape-level factors, and proposed treatments in Area C. The RDCK sponsored FireSmart program will also be featured, providing a path to reducing the risk of wildfire to your home.
