Regional District of Central Kootenay Area C had a total of $30,000 available for disbursement through the Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Initiatives Grant program. Twenty-eight applications totaling $ 52,210 were submitted.
On April 19th, a public meeting was held at which representatives from the requesting organizations were given an opportunity to present their project. Area C residents were then asked to vote for the projects they felt should be funded. These votes, along with recommendations from the APC, resulted in the following projects being recommended for CBT funding:
Central Kootenay Invasive Plant Committee, $1,000; Spay and Neuter Animal Program, $2,500; Creston Community Band, $2,000; Creston Valley Community Radio Society, $1,000; Creston Valley Fall Fair Association, $1,500; Creston Valley Figure Skating Club, $1,500; Creston Valley Food Action Coalition, $1,000; Creston Valley Senior's Association, $5,000; Creston Valley Junior Hockey Society, $2,000; Friends of the Community Greenhouse, $1,000; Teetzel Creek Water Users Society, $1,000; West Creston Community Hall Society, $4,700; West Creston Fire Protection Society, $4,730. Total: $28,930.
