MLA Michelle Mungall is welcoming $105,706 through the B.C. Air Access Program to improve safety and convenience for people travelling through the Creston airport.

“The Creston airport is a hub for firefighting and medevac deployments, and is a vital piece of community infrastructure,” said the MLA for Nelson-Creston. “This grant is helping us keep our communities safe and able to access necessary health services.”

The Creston airport will use the grant funding for an airside storage building and is one of 16 community airports across the province receiving funding this year. Improvements to community airports will range from runway resurfacing and terminal building expansions to increased medevac services, weather detection systems and fire protection upgrades, to reducing environmental risks and greenhouse gas emissions.

The program is in its fifth year, and this year’s grants total nearly $8 million in funding. Seven of the 16 facilities will receive funding for the first time this year, and many facilities are located in remote northern communities that struggle to make needed improvements without support.
