Trail RCMP have arrested a man allegedly connected to an explosion on Feb. 10 at the Glenwood Inn and Suites.

Trail officers arrested Ryan Harp of Grand Forks on Friday, Feb. 23.

Police say the 33-year-old was at the scene of an explosion in the Trail motel room.

The explosion started a fire in an adjacent room that had to be evacuated, but no one was found injured at the scene, police later reported.

A spokesperson from the Glenwood Inn also confirmed to the Trail Times that everyone was safe and affected guests evacuated and relocated to alternative accommodations.

Police said a search of the room uncovered firearms and ammunition, and that officers had arrested a 48-year-old man who was suspected to be associated to the room.

He is facing several firearms offences.

Trail RCMP noted that they received assistance from the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (SEDERT) and Southeast District General Investigation Section (GIS) to locate and arrest Harp without risk to the public.

“Trail RCMP continues to make this investigation a top priority,” said Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “The partnership between Trail RCMP, SEDERT, GIS, and other RCMP detachments who contributed resulted in the Harp’s capture.”

Harp is being held in police custody and is charged with several alleged offences including criminal harassment, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, mischief endangering life, and storing firearms.

Harp is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order, three times.

“Without this cooperation and resourcing, this arrest would have proven much more difficult and dangerous for Trail officers alone,” added Wicentowich.
