Dancers from a half-dozen provinces and states descended on Lower Kootenay on the weekend for the 22nd annual Yaqan Nukiy Powwow.
Dozens of children and elders, men and women, participated in competitions on Saturday and Sunday, displaying colourful and complex garments symbolic of their tribes' culture and history.
The event is a popular part of the Creston Valley Blossom Festival and it draws spectactors who are welcomed to be part of this First Nations tradition of gathering, dancing, drumming and celebrating.
