Mungall was back in Victoria this week. The first day opened with the Speech from the Throne, which sets the government's agenda for this brief pre-election session.
"This agenda," says Mungall, "sadly leaves people out again. So many people in this province are struggling to get by. They’re watching rates go up on their medical services premiums, their car insurance, their utility bills while Christy Clark gives a billion dollar tax breaks to the rich."
Mungall adds that she was baffled by the government's claim of a positive working relationship with teachers in the Throne Speech.
"Because they stood up for public education, Premier Clark and the BC Liberal government have treated teachers with disrespect and disdain," said Mungall. "To characterize her government's approach as anything less is to ignore a decade of legal battles and labour disputes."
New Democrat Leader John Horgan says there is a better way forward and British Columbians deserve more than a government who pats themselves on the back for tax cuts to the rich at the expense of everyone else.
“British Columbians deserve an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and the well-connected.
“I believe we need a plan over the long term that has people and the services they need at the center. Not budgets based on buying people with their own money on the eve of an election.
“After years of neglect, people simply don’t believe Christy Clark is ready to solve the problems that matter in their lives.”
