House destroyed by fire early Sunday morning

The house was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene.

Just before 3:00 am Sunday morning the Canyon-Lister Fire Department, in coordination with Creston Fire Rescue, and Wynndel-Lakeview Fire responded to a house fire at 3712 Hwy 21 on Lower Kootenay Band land.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived on scene.

Occupants of the home were able to get out safely, unfortunately, two dogs did not survive the fire.

Firefighters remained at the scene until 3:00 pm Sunday afternoon putting out hot spots.

The fire was isolated to one structure with no damage to surrounding properties. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Lower Kootenay Band Chief Jason Louie released the following statement thanking the first responders.

“LKB is currently focusing on assisting the family with their loss. Although there were deeply personal items lost that can never be replaced, the family is being supported in community by the community. LKB would like to acknowledge the considerable efforts of all the first responders and extend a heartfelt thank you.”
