Federal Conservative nomination candidate Wesly Graham has done his part, driving to Calgary to put the paperwork for new party members on a plane. Now he’s asking members to make sure they cast their ballots.

Graham is vying with four others for the chance to succeed retiring MP Jim Abbott as the Conservative Party candidate in the next election.

“I’ve sold a lot of memberships and the only way I can ensure they get registered on time is to drive them to Calgary,” he said on Monday, just before leaving town.

While Graham wouldn’t reveal how many memberships he has sold, he did say that it is important for members to take advantage of the travelling poll, which will be in Creston on March 17.

“It looks like the candidates will be invited to make speeches before the poll opens,” he said.

His information is that votes can be cast at the Creston and District Community Complex from 5-10 p.m. The last stop for the poll will be in Cranbrook on March 19.

“Driving the paperwork to Calgary is another indication of my determination,” he said. “If I win the nomination and election I might be the first MP from Creston — this could be historical for us.

“It’s important for Conservative party members to get out and vote. This is your say in who has a chance to become the next MP.”

The successful Conservative candidate will face what is expected to be strong opposition from NDP candidate Mark Schmigelsky, a former mayor of Invermere.
