Honest, caring citizens highlighted the week for Creston RCMP, Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said on Sept. 12.

Two reports of possible sightings of the brown Toyota being sought in the Sparwood kidnapping case (police were unable to locate the vehicle in both cases), one lost wallet turned in at the post office and a citizen turning over a $5 bill found on the street to police had Gollan commenting on the number of Good Samaritans in his new place of residence.

Police Beat

The RCMP responded to a total of 73 calls from Sept. 5-11, Gollan said.

September 5

•When responding to an assault complaint on Mallory Road, police learned that alcohol was involved as two males argued about a female. No charges were laid.

•A complaint of a speeding older brown pickup truck was received from Fox Tree Hill Road.

•Although police were unable to locate a red Camaro and silver car reported to be racing on Highway 3 in Erickson, Gollan pointed out the penalties for that activity are stiff. Police can seize the vehicles of racers and their licences can be in jeopardy.

•A wallet with an Indianapolis Colts logo was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on 12th Avenue North.

September 6

•”Now, that’s honest,” Gollan said about a $5 bill found on Canyon Street and turned over to police.

•A waterline was damaged on a Shaw Road property in Wynndel when a small pickup truck was driven on the land.

•The couple that rides together…should spread out a bit. A female motorcyclist rear-ended her husband’s classic 1973 Norton bike while they were riding on Highway 3 near Kootenay Pass.

•A 21st Avenue North resident complained about his neighbour’s lack of hot-tubbing attire.

September 7

•An elderly female driver sustained only slight injuries when her car went off Erickson Road and sheered off a power pole.

•A lost wallet was recovered on Northwest Boulevard and turned into the post office.

•An intoxicated driver was stopped on Highway 21 and issued a 90-day driving prohibition. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

September 8

•Police were unable to locate a brown Toyota with a similar description to the one being sought in the Sparwood kidnapping case.

•No injuries resulted when a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle as it attempted to turn off Canyon Street near 16th Avenue North.

•The licence plate number of a driver who was talking on a cellphone on 12th Avenue was reported to police. He will receive a ticket after nearly hitting a pedestrian.

•A witness reported that “three pieces” fell off a plane flying over Crawford Bay. Police have no information about any plane being in trouble at the time.

September 9

•A person reported to by lying on the ground beside a tractor-trailer unit’s tires was found to be a hitchhiker who was taking a snooze. Bad idea to do so beside a vehicle’s wheels, Gollan pointed out.

•A written warning letter has been sent to the owner of a vehicle reported to be passing on double solid lines on Highway 3 in Erickson.

•Police were called to a Seventh Avenue residence, where a neighour was chastising another for reporting her cats and getting her in the Advance police news.

•Another vehicle reported as matching the description of the brown Toyota in the Amber Alert from Sparwood could not be located.

September 10
