What experience do you have that would make you an effective councillor?

I managed our company for 30 years. In addition I served on the board of four major insurance companies and a special merger board for the national Netherlands bank when they purchased a number of insurance companies in North America. Locally I have served on the board of the Creston Golf Club, the Junior A hockey society, minor hockey and Creston Valley restructure study. I was an alternate director to the Regional District of Central Kootenay and a member of the advisory planning commission for Area B. I believe my management experience and my ability to work as a team member on various boards makes me a knowledgeable candidate to serve on Creston council.

What is your top priority for the next town council?

Good governance. I believe the people of Creston want honest open government that is fiscally responsible. Like everyone, I am concerned about our downtown core and would like to improve that situation but if we are to tackle that problem it still must be done in a fiscally responsible manner. I want to give the people of Creston my best efforts at responsible government.

Should the Creston Valley have a single, locally managed form of government?

As the former chair of the Creston Valley restructure study, I am very aware of some of the benefits and potential problems with a single local government. There is lots of work to be done to ascertain if that is the best financial option for our valley. In the interim, some of that study’s recommendations such as fire protection and water could be worked on.

How many council/committee meetings have you attended in 2014?

To date, I have not attended any meetings which leaves me with an open mind and no predetermined positions of future matters.
