A late night blaze completely destroyed a residence at 434 25th Avenue South on Saturday.
“Upon our arrival at the house it was fully involved in flames,” said Creston Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Michael Moore. “All occupants of the house had safely escaped prior to the arrival of the fire department.”
With the house already in flames, firefighters concentrated their efforts on a neighbouring residence, which had also been evacuated. The 16 firefighters on the scene fought the blaze for two hours to bring it under control but the fire wasn’t completely extinguished until 5 a.m. on Sunday, more than five hours after they arrived at the site.
Creston RCMP maintained traffic and crowd control during the fire and BC Ambulance personnel remained on the scene in case of injury to firefighters. No injuries were reported.
“Total damage is estimated at approximately $315,000 between the two residences,” Moore said. “The saved property value would be estimated at $325,000. …
“There has been no cause of the fire identified and the only information known is that the two occupants were in bed at the time the blaze broke out. They awoke in time to escape the fire.”
Moore said an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire, but it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
