Evacuation orders have been downgraded to evacuation alerts in a rural area north of Fairmont Hot Springs following firefighting response to the Madias Creek wildfire on Monday, July 22.
Current evacuation alerts remain in place, including those issued by ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation Council for their community.
“With the great work that the RDEK Firefighters and BC Wildfire Crews have been putting in, the Order that was in place has been able to be downgraded to an Alert. Residents that are in the Alert area should stay prepared and be ready to leave on a moment’s notice should conditions change and an order needs to be re-issued,” says Regional Emergency Operations Centre Information Officer, Loree Duczek.
An update from ʔakisq̓nuk on social media notes that crews remain on scene Tuesday morning (July 23) conducting clean and checking for hot spots and that "the current outlook is good."
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire is estimated at just over two hectares in size.
The Evacuation Order included 27 civic addresses in the Crooked Tree/Madias Creek area that were tactically evacuated Monday afternoon.
The Evacuation Alert areas that were put in place by both the RDEK and the ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation Council covers approximately 250 properties in the nearby area.
