Creston RCMP members responded to 47 calls from March 21-27, week apparently made quieter by spring break, which takes many families away for vacation, Staff Sergeant Darryl Hammond said on Monday.
March 21
•A quantity of septage was dumped in a ditch beside Wagner Road.
•Police were called to Kitchener, where an ongoing family dispute continues.
•Police assisted a provincial ministry by checking on a family.
•A call from an angry driver to the police station put police on alert for a short period. Furious that he had been notified that his vehicle impoundment had been upped from 7 to 30 days, he announced that he was going to the police station. He did not arrive.
March 22
•A Birch Street resident called for advice about an issue involving the friend of a friend.
•A male who was reported to having tried to start fights at a Simon Road residence was arrested and charges for causing a disturbance have been forwarded to the Crown for review.
•In what Hammond describes as a dispute on 11th Avenue North that has been going on for two years, a male damaged his neighbour’s fence with a hammer. Police are recommending charges.
•A driver has been sent a warning letter after failing to yield to a pedestrian with a stroller in a 16th Avenue North intersection.
•A 911 caller using an out of service cell phone said she was making a test call to see if it worked.
•A dispute between a parent and an adult child on 6th Avenue North required police attention.
•Police were unable to locate a reported erratic driver headed eastbound on Highway 3 in an Alberta vehicle.
•Police conducted a well-being check at the request of a concerned employer. The person in question was okay.
•A male who was refused entry to the US at Porthill was returned to the Canadian port of entry by US officials.
March 23
•A well-being check in Crawford Bay discovered a female in need of medical attention.
•A yelling match over one driver’s behavior broke out on Northwest Boulevard.
•A wallet found on Northwest Boulevard was soon matched with the owner, who reported it missing a short time later.
•Police attended a Highway 21 residence to keep the peace while a person retrieved belongings.
•When police located a reported suspicious person on Hester Road they found he was in need of assistance.
March 24
•A window was smashed at Gleaners on Canyon Street.
•A well-being check at a 4th Avenue South residence indicated no problems.
•Police set up a check stop on Northwest Boulevard at Railway Avenue and found a driver who had been consuming alcohol. He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition, given a ticket and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.
March 25
•A report of a dead elk on Hahn Road was referred to YRB road maintenance contractors.
•A well-being check on a resident in the 6000 block of Highway 3A indicated the person had a phone problem.
•The owner of two dogs running at large in the 400 block of 10th Avenue North will get a warning.
•Police were notified about a parent in Kingsgate who took his children out of the country in violation of a child custody order.
•When police arrived to check on two youths reported to be operating dirt bikes on Pitt Road, one stopped and the other fled the scene. Tickets were issued and parents were warned.
March 25
•Police did not locate four reportedly suspicious persons in Burns Park.
March 26
•No issues with drivers or their vehicles in another check stop on Northwest Boulevard.
•A vehicle was reported to have passed four vehicles in one go on Highway 3A near Crawford Bay.
•A driver who was reported to be doing donuts near 8th Avenue and Huscroft Road was located. His vehicle was impounded for stunting. Police discovered he had other complaints against him and issued additional tickets.
•An intoxicated male banging on a door and trying to find a friend on 11th Avenue South was arrested and held overnight in police cells. He also had a small quantity of marijuana seized.
•The source of shots reported in Erickson was not determined.
•A cell phone found near Koocanusa was returned to its owner.
March 27
•A reported theft of plywood from a Kitchener property was resolved and the wood was returned.
