An incredible final day of BC high school provincial championships for the PCSS senior boys and girls volleyball teams on Saturday, December 1.
The final game vying for 9th place out of 26 teams in the province found the PCCS senior boys pitted against the hard-hitting Pacific Christian Secondary School. It was an emotional game for many of them.
Senior players, for reality, hit, that this would be their last and final game playing high school volleyball for PCSS and with their teammates. “The grade eleven players decided that they were going to win this game for the seniors, and really gave it all they had,” said coach Ki Louie.
The boys fought hard and defeated Pacific Christian in two sets. “Kaden Hansen had some awesome solid blocks, and Etienne Boutet had incredible decision making during the game, covering positions, and playing strategic ball,” said Louie.
After the very exciting win, the was one more surprise in store for the PCSS Boys. Teammate Ryley Ducharme was chosen as All-Star for the tournament and will be coming back to Langley to play on the all-star team in a few weeks.
The final game for the senior girls against Smithers was an emotional one said Coach Allison Kepke. The girls were very close to winning the match but were defeated thirteen to 15 in the 3 rd set. “Jessa Adams and Allison Juris really found their stride to help us win the second set.” Shared Kepke. “As a team, we decided to give everyone an opportunity to have time on the court.”
The girls ended up placing 16th out of 16 teams but gained in skill and confidence from exposure at the provincial championship tournament.
