It was an exciting day for both PCSS senior boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams yesterday at the provincial championships. The boys’ team played in Langley and the girls’ team in Burnaby.

The senior boys started the day playing Kelly Road Secondary School from Prince George and were defeated in the fifth set by two points.

“It was a real heartbreaker to lose such a close game. The boys fought hard,” said coach Ki Louie.

The second game of the day was against St Michaels Secondary School from Prince George.

“Isaiah Persad was incredibly persistent with his serves, and Sage Evans, our ‘tall man’ was a force out there and a very vocal leader keeping that team momentum going.”

Both Evans and Ryley Ducharme were swinging for the dirt with their powerful slams and strategic placement of the ball.

“It was a great game for our team. Everyone played well, and we kept finding ground. It was awesome,” said Evans.

The PCSS senior girls team started their first game of the provincial championships against last years number one ranked team, Langley Christian High School.

“It was a tough matchup, but the girls gave it their all and left everything out on the court,” said coach Allison Kepke.

The PCSS senior girls were defeated in two sets. Their second game of the day found them pitted against Sa-Hali Secondary School out of Kamloops.

Although the girls lost the match, Jordan Dortman and Meredith Cote were both recognized amongst team members for their outstanding efforts.

“Jordan and Meredith both nailed so many great blocks that we needed. They just kept on digging,” said coach Kepke.

The PCSS girls team was defeated in the third game, by St. Thomas More Collegiate.

“Our team is comprised of half grade 11’s and half grade 12’s coming to a tournament like this is great exposure, and experience for these talented players”

Both teams will continue to play on Friday.
