Are you looking for an activity that suits people of all ages and isn’t expensive to get started? How about tennis?

The Creston Valley Tennis Club has a week of activities planned beginning on July 20 to introduce itself and the game to the public.

The 28-member club maintains two courts at the south end of the Prince Charles Secondary School grounds on 18th Avenue. It will be offering lessons for juniors and seniors with instructor Mary Wigen. Basic instruction and an introduction to the game are designed to encourage new participants, said club member Sumarie Leroux.

“Club membership is only $30 for singles and $50 for families,” she said. “There is no cost to play, but people can leave a donation when they play on the courts.”

The courts are open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Club members get a lock code and can play whenever they want. Lights are on until 10 p.m.

Club members play Monday through Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

“We want people to come out and have fun, enjoy the game for the few months of the summer that the weather allows us,”Leroux said. “We have two working days when we put up the wind screens in the spring and remove them again in the fall.”

Members are working to promote the game to have its importance recognized in the Official Community Plan so that new courts can be eventually planned and constructed.
