Creston voters will have an opportunity to hear from Town of Creston mayor and council candidates in an election forum at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Prince Charles Theatre.

Continuing a longstanding pre-election tradition, the forum is sponsored by the Creston Valley Chamber of Commerce, and voters are encouraged to submit their questions by email before noon Oct. 15 to info@crestonvalleychamber.com.

“We’re happy to host it, but we want candidates to respond to the questions residents want answered,” says vice-president Brian Lawrence, a former editor of the Creston Valley Advance and I Love Creston, who will moderate the event.

Candidates will each have two minutes to introduce themselves at the beginning of the forum, followed by questions from the moderator, with responses also kept to a strict time limit.

“With fourteen candidates — three for mayor and eleven for council — we want the evening to be as efficient as possible to allow for a wide variety of topics,” says Lawrence. “For that reason, if we receive a lot of questions on a single topic, they will likely be condensed into one or two.”

The chamber hopes that the forum will help voters to make their decisions in anticipation of the Oct. 20 municipal election.

“With such a diverse group running for positions on town council, this should bring some clarity for voters who are unsure,” says Lawrence. “Forums have certainly helped to inform my voting decisions in the past.”
