Kootenai Community Centre Society is hosting their annual Take Back the Night march Friday night at Millennium Park.

The Take Back The Night Foundation is an international organization with grassroots stretching back to the 1970’s to create safe communities through awareness events and initiatives. The march focuses on strengthening communities by bringing together people of different races, faith groups, philosophies, genders, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds to shatter the silence surrounding violence against women and honors the experiences of survivors of sexual violence; sexual assault, childhood sexual violence, and domestic violence.

“Take Back the Night raises awareness of violence against women, honours survivors and hopefully inspires other survivors to come forward. We are here to support survivors not blame or judge them. Said Laura Dodman, executive director of Kootenai Community Centre Society.

Kootenai Community Centre Society vision for the future is to assist and empower women, and their families to live violent-free lifestyles. Information on how to donate to the Kootenai Community Centre Society can be found on their website www.kootenaicommunitycentre.org.

The Take Back the Night march takes place 6:00 pm Friday September 21, 2018 at Millennium Park
