Creston RCMP responded to 108 calls for service from Aug. 20-26, a week that included an increasingly rare legitimate 911 emergency cellphone call, Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said on Monday.

August 20

•When police received a complaint about use of the Regional District of Central Kootenay/library parking lot by overnight campers, they found the folks there were parked to use the free Wi-Fi service.

•A duffle bag full of clothing was stolen from the rear of a pickup truck that was parked briefly at a Crawford Bay business.

•A resident who parks a trailer at a friend’s property when it’s not in use was surprised to see it drive by on Hillside Street. The friend reported that it had been removed from his yard about six months ago and it now appears to have been stolen.

•A camper sustained minor damage in a hit and run in a parking lot in the 1400 block of Cook Street.

•Police were called about a neighbours’ dispute over trees on Eighth Avenue South.

•A small blue SUV was reported to be driving erratically on Crawford Street.

•A motorcycle driver was uninjured when he went off Highway 3A near Gray Creek.

•A Coleman travel trailer with Ontario plates was stolen from a Cook Street parking lot.

•A male on Canyon Street who was so intoxicated he couldn’t stand up refused ambulance help and was taken into police custody overnight.

•A dispute between a tenant who owes back rent and a landlord who is withholding car tires in lieu was referred to civil processes.

August 21

•When police traced a 911 cellphone call to a Kaslo location, they found the male caller was in emergency distress and medical help was sent by way of an ambulance.

•Two children who wandered from their home while their parents were housecleaning were found on Highway 3A by a Good Samaritan and returned to their grateful parents.

•A female was arrested for assault on 38th Avenue and later released with a no-contact order.

•Police were called to Canyon Street to assist paramedics with an emergency call.

•A complaint about a dog barking “for three months” was referred to the RDCK bylaw department.

August 22

•CDs and a car owner’s manual were stolen from a vehicle on Hillside Street.

•A landlord-tenant dispute was referred to the residential tenancy branch.

•Three youths ran off when a 22nd Avenue North resident found them attempting to enter a vacant apartment.

•Shoplifters were caught on camera in an August 13th theft on Northwest Boulevard. Video shows a male of average height and build, wearing black clothing and a hat, driving off in a silver Dodge Avenger, a 2008 or newer model.

•No injuries resulted when a truck rolled onto its side on Highway 3A.

•When police located a driver reported to be driving too slowly on Highway 21 near the Kootenay River, she reported that she was looking for chokecherries along the highway.

•A black Chevrolet pickup reported to be speeding and weaving in and out of traffic on Highway 3A was in an accident minutes later. The driver attempted to pass a vehicle as it was making a left turn and three of the vehicles’ occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver blew a “warn” on an alcohol screening device and was issued a three-day driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for three days, though it was probably totaled.

•An intoxicated female was taken to another residence after a dispute on Pine Street.

August 23

•When police were called to a Vancouver Street residence after a report of glass breaking, they could find no evidence of broken glass or any break-in attempt.

•A Yamaha short shaft eight-horsepower outboard motor was stolen from the Kuskanook boat launch area.

•When police investigated a 911 call from the Elsie Holmes Road area in Wynndel, they found no problems, but learned that the call was made with a history of false complaints. He had reported being held against his will.

•Police are recommending assault charges against a 38-year-old female after a landlord-tenant dispute on Elm Street.

•Police were unable to locate a dog that reportedly chased a female on 16th Avenue North.

August 24

•Three youths ran when they were seen attempting to enter a vehicle on Fifth Avenue North.

•A U.S. passport, cash and an iPod were stolen from a vehicle on 20th Avenue South.

•No injuries were reported after a vehicle struck a concrete barricade on Railway Avenue in Yahk.

•A wallet was stolen by three youths from an unlocked vehicle on Birch Street.

•An air mattress was stolen from a vehicle on Birch Street and later found nearby.

•An illegally parked vehicle on Canyon Street was towed.

•A well-being check on a Dogwood Street resident revealed that she was OK.

•A male was reported to have been bitten by a dog on Elsie Holmes Road.

•A neighbourhood dispute which has been “ongoing for 20 years” was reported from Hearst Road in Riondel.

•A male faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and remains in custody after a domestic dispute on Sinclair Road.

August 25

•An erratic driver on Canyon-Lister Road was given a 24-hour driving prohibition.

•Police were unable to locate a white van reported to be in the control of a possibly impaired driver on Mallory Road.

•When police stopped a vehicle that was reported to be driving 50 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in West Creston, they found an Alberta couple who reported that they were completely smitten by the beauty of the Creston Valley.

•A Beam Road resident reported that she has lost her black leather purse.

August 26

•A Lifeline wearer who called for help on Dogwood Street received police and paramedical help in getting her to the hospital.

•Three females were engaged in a physical conflict outside a Ninth Avenue pub.

•When a dog jumped onto a vehicle and scratched its paint its owner thought he was doing the right thing by offering to buff out the scratch at his shop. He reiterated the offer when confronted a short time afterward and got a handful of rocks thrown at his vehicle as thanks.

•An erratic driver on Helen Street was located and issued a ticket for his performance.

•No injuries resulted in a minor collision on Birch Street.

•A female youth was reported missing from her 26th Avenue North residence.

•Police are investigating a minor assault on 33rd Avenue South.
