Last week, the Creston RCMP showed their support for Special Olympics BC with the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
On May 28, officers teamed up with Creston Fire Rescue for the event, which had close to 100 people attend and participate. The run raised a grand total of $3,657 for Special Olympics, well over the goal of $3,000.
To raise funds, runners and walkers completed laps on the soccer field next to the Creston and District Community Complex.
Const. Brett Urano said it was exciting to host the first annual event for Creston.
“It’s an opportunity for us to support these athletes and the events that give them a sense of community,” he said. “We’re all here to cheer them on.”
There was an outpouring of support from many local businesses, who donated door prizes.
“I would like to specifically thank Pealow’s Independent Grocer for donating the food for the barbecue, and Creston Fire Rescue for managing the grills and supporting the event,” said Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk, Creston RCMP Detachment Commander.
“We love opportunities to support great causes, as it gives my officers the opportunity to build community relationships. Events like this are so meaningful to our local Special Olympics athletes and I am so proud of them. Seeing the smiles on their faces and their commitment to their respective sports, was truly humbling.”
