A Creston man received an 18-month conditional sentence in Nelson court last month after pleading guilty to indecent assault in a case dating back to the 1970s.

The man, who cannot be named to protect his victim, was originally charged in February 2012 with additional counts of incest, gross indecency, and sex with a minor. He pled not guilty to all the alleged crimes but later admitted to indecent assault. At sentencing, the Crown stayed the remaining charges.

The crimes were alleged to have occurred in Nakusp between 1972 and 1979.

In addition to the conditional sentence, Judge Lisa Mrozinski prohibited the man from having contact with children for two years, ordered him to provide a DNA sample, and imposed a 10-year firearms ban.
