Your More Rewards points can now be donated at Creston's Overwaitea Foods to benefit the Creston-Kootenay Foundation.

The Creston-Kootenay Foundation and Overwaitea Foods have teamed up to make it easier to donate to worthy causes.

“Overwaitea has been very supportive of the foundation,” society director Ted Hutchinson said last week. “From now through the end of March, Overwaitea customers can contribute to the Creston-Kootenay Foundation (CKF) by giving their rewards points. Just tell the cashier how many points you want to donate and it’s done — it is just that easy.”

The foundation will be able to take cash for the More Rewards points, or redeem them for items that can be used in fundraisers, like the silent auction that will be part of the Grand Soiree in June.

Since its inception as a community foundation in 2004, CKF has issued grants totalling nearly $117,000 (through 2010). Recipients have been as diverse as the Creston Valley Hospice Society, the College of the Rockies greenhouse project, the Pet Adoption and Welfare Society (PAWS), the Creston and District Society for Community Living’s Therapeutic Riding Program and local science fairs.

The foundation welcomes donations in many forms. Donations can be made at its website or cheques can be mailed to Box 701, Creston BC, V0B 1G0. Planned giving can easily be arranged by adding the foundation to a will or naming it as an insurance beneficiary. Donations are tax deductible.

In addition to the current partnership with Overwaitea, CKF director Heather Suttie says plans are well underway to follow up last year’s very popular Grand Soiree with another in June.

“The June 2 Grand Soiree will be presented in partnership with the College of the Rockies Greenhouse Project, which will share in the proceeds,” she said. “It promises to be a memorable event because it will have a Titanic theme, to recognize the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking. …

“The Creston-Kootenay Foundation has very positive effects throughout our community. Supporting the foundation is an excellent way to support your community.”
