At the beginning of a new year, many people pledge to get fit — and a contest put on by Creston Fitness Centre may help them on their way.

Gym owner Charleen Pompu is teaming up with ViSalus representative Laurie Dickson, a two-time world champion fitness model from Cranbrook, to host the Body by Vi Challenge.

“I want to inspire people to transform themselves, to be all they can be,” Pompu said. “Put your body out there and give it a test.”

Dickson will be in Creston at 2 p.m. on Jan. 8 to discuss ViSalus, as well as the company’s $10 million in prizes, with a grand prize of a Hollywood transformation vacation, second prize of a Baja cruise for two and other prizes and products for runners-up.

The contest will start in early January and run 90 days, and requires contestants to use ViSalus supplements throughout the competition. The ViSalus nutrition shakes — which the company calls the “shake mix that tastes like a cake mix” — offer balanced amino acids, enzymes and nutrients, which Pompu said are a great help with weight loss — in just over three weeks of using the products, she lost 13 pounds.

“It really helps you firm up and feel good, and energy is abundant,” she said.

Pompu said the contest will be a “90-day reality check” that will do much more than help people lose weight — they will also become healthier.

“This is for a goal of nutrition,” said Pompu. “I’m not into product-pushing, only nutrition.”

And she’s looking forward to seeing the results good nutrition can bring.

“It’s about loving yourself and your body, and making enough changes to live life in health and harmony,” said Pompu. “In the end, I hope I give everyone a little confidence to care about themselves.”
