Quick thinking by the driver of a GMC truck prompted him to pull to the side of 15th Avenue North around 11 a.m. Friday morning, moments before his engine burst into flames.

“He could smell something burning,” said Creston Fire Rescue Chief Mike Moore.

The blaze was put out by fire crews, which were stretched thin, as they responded to the fire, a medical call and the report of a gas leak at the Creston Education Centre simultaneously.
