Creston doesn’t need a state of the art firehall

Find the middle ground at a much lower cost

To the Editor,

The town is currently having a referendum vote to borrow a lot of money to build a very extensive fire hall complex. We have seen the proposed site/ building plans and we think, they are not cost effective for a town this size. We don’t need all of the “State of the art” ‘wants’ that the Town proposes.

We don’t need and can’t afford all of them. The proposed site plan has several landscaped parking lots. This adds immensely to the costs. Whatever happened to straight forward, functional plans that are low maintenance (landscaping requires lots of work/expense). One or 2 parking areas without landscaping should be sufficient. The buildings can contain all of the necessary areas, built to Code and don’t have to Look better than every other towns firehalls. Build it safe, solid, functional, and at a cost Creston Tax Payers can afford. Our taxes should not have to go up very much to build this, as we believe the cost can be a lot lower than projected if the WANTS are scaled down. It is to be a work space, not an art exhibit. We are sure there are rooms in the proposal, that can be eliminated. The Town wants to go from what it now has for a firehall, to, the State of the art, top of the line firehall. How about finding the middle ground at a much lower cost.
