Three Atom minor hockey players will be going on the trip of a lifetime this summer after being selected to an elite hockey program that operates out of Calgary.

Jake Adams, Dexden Schiffke and Riley Kepke impressed scouts from Top Guns Hockey Development Inc. sufficiently to be included in the Team Canada Cowboys Euro Hockey program.

“This is such a great opportunity for these boys,” Jake’s mom, Terry Adams, said on Monday. “They are already planning fundraisers to help pay for their expenses.”

Included in being selected to the program is a week-long training camp in Canmore in July, and a 15-day tour of Europe. The team will play eight games in Germany, Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic, and get plenty of exposure to cultural sites, too.

Cost for the program is $5,800 per player, and each must be accompanied by a parent, whose expenses will be nearly $5,000 each.

“The boys want to do the usual things to raise money, like hot dog sales,” Adams said. “They can hardly wait to get going!”
