From the Fall Fair Committee
With excitement and some trepidation, the 104th annual Creston Valley Fall Fair was hosted on Sept. 9 and 10.
Would people come? Would there be entries? Come they did, in droves. There were more than 2,600 visitors - happy people, smiling faces.
“I didn’t hear too many complaints about long line-ups or lack of parking,” said Brenda Brucker, Fall Fair Committee member. “People were excited about getting together, meeting friends and supporting local food producers.”
The Friday evening at the Creston and District Community Complex had a carnival-like atmosphere, with people sampling food truck fare and kids playing on the playground.
Throughout the weekend, talented singers and musicians were welcomed to the stage to entertain the crowds. The venue had tables overflowing with handcrafted artwork, wood- working, kids’ crafts, preserves, and beautiful homegrown fruit and veggies - including a prizewinning 109-pound pumpkin!
Next door in the other arena, local farmers showed off the prettiest of their pampered livestock. Families delighted in seeing Clydesdale horses, chickens, rabbits, pigs, goats, sheep, and even an alpaca with a baby.
Other highlights included the kids’ tractor pull, met with great enthusiasm by the small participants. And the Fall Fair Feast, made with local ingredients.

The success of the fair is an example of the dedication and tireless effort put in by many volunteers.
“We wouldn’t have this event if it weren’t for a supportive community and willing volunteers,” said Brucker. “It requires countless meetings, planning, many hours of labour setting up and taking down tables, displays, and animal pens.”
The Fall Fair Committee is looking forward to next year’s event. The more volunteers, the better it will be. If you would like to volunteer, please leave your name at the Creston Valley Advance office.
