Castlegar RCMP are investigating a threat of violence involving a firearm by a youth on social media, according to an RCMP news release.
On May 16, the police received a report that a 15-year-old girl had made a threat of violence toward another youth.
The threat was allegedly made after a disturbance among youth that had occurred at an event over the previous weekend. The message thread included youth that reside in the Castlegar, Trail and Salmo areas, the news release states.
Castlegar RCMP have been in contact with the suspect youth and their guardian.
As part of the police investigation a risk assessment was made, and it was determined there was no risk to any of the schools in the area.
Castlegar RCMP are continuing to investigate the allegation. No one has been charged so far in relation to the incident.
Sgt. Monty Taylor says that there is no connection between this threat and an April 16 threat by a Stanley Humphries Secondary School student.
The investigation into the April incident has been forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for a charge assessment.
