There was more than just Canada Day to celebrate in Canyon Park on Wednesday.

Members of the Canyon Community Association were eager to show off the newly constructed washroom building that was constructed thanks to dedicated volunteers and grants from several sources, including $56,000 from a Government of Canada infrastructure fund.

“Please take the opportunity to sit down and enjoy the new washrooms,” a smiling association president Deb Nelius told the Canada Day crowd.

Kootenay-Columbia MP David Wilks was on hand to represent his government at the festivities. Also in attendance to extend Canada Day greetings and help in distributing cake were Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall and RDCK Area B director Tanya Wall.

Next in the series of improvements is renovations to the kitchen, Nelius said.
