On Sep.t 23, Canyon-Lister Elementary School celebrated the United Nations’ International Day of Peace (Sept. 21).

It was a morning filled with discussion, as well as the singing of John Lennon’s Imagine and Yusuf Islam’s Peace Train. Inspired by Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots program, students held a school march in support of international peace and ultimately formed a human peace symbol on the school field.

CLES hopes to become a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) school — a school with a social justice focus: human rights and democracy, knowledge about local and world issues, environmental sustainability and intercultural learning and diversity. The goal is to use this knowledge proactively to create positive changes within local and global communities.
