A new federal government is expected to be named Monday night, as Canada’s 2025 snap election gets underway.
The main parties vying for the 343 seats in the House of Commons are Mark Carney’s Liberals, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, Jagmeet Singh’s New Democrats, Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault’s Greens, Yves-François Blanchet’s Bloc Quebecois, and Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada.
Polls are open in British Columbia from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. PDT.
A record number of voters cast their ballots in the federal election as early as April 18 in advance polls.
Voters can find the address for their assigned polling station on the back of their voter information card, by visiting elections.ca, or by calling 1-800-463-6868.
On election day in the Creston Valley, most voters will be headed to the Creston and District Community Complex - Creston Room at 312 19 Ave. North.
Voters can only visit their specified polling location. This is different from the process in some provincial elections, where electors can vote at any polling location.
To vote, electors must prove their identity and address. The list of accepted ID can be found online at the Elections Canada website.
Candidates running in Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies are:
- Laurie Baird (People's Party of Canada)
- Reggie Goldsbury (Liberal Party of Canada)
- Kallee Lins (NDP)
- Steven Maffioli (Green Party of Canada)
- Rob Morrison (Incumbent - Conservative Party of Canada)
- Jim Wiedrick (Independent)
