Creston RCMP continue to be busy, responding to a quarter more calls for service weekly compared to last year, Staff Sgt. Darryl Hammond said on Monday. They fielded 75 requests for service from January 2-8, he said.

January 2

•Responding to a reported break-in attempt, police found no footprints to indicate an intruder had been near the house.

•A search for a person resulted in an unusual conclusion. He was found waiting in the hospital while a family member was treated, but the patient had been transferred to hospital in Cranbrook without his knowledge.

•No injuries resulted when a vehicle went of Highway 3 near Topaz Creek and into the snowbank. Road conditions were icy.

•A check of 21 vehicles in the Kootenay Pass parking lot showed all had appropriate winter tires.

•Police arrested a male stopped for speeding on Highway 3 near N. Goat River Road when it was determined there was a warrant out for him.

•Strange sounds outside a Northwest Boulevard residence were attributed to a gate swaying in the wind. No footprints could be found around the house perimeter.

January 3

•Internet fraud was reported.

•Cash was stolen in a December 31 break-in to a Hillside Street residence.

•When a report of possible animal abuse in Erickson was reported police determined the dog in question was a cold weather animal that is happiest outside.

•A neighbours’ dispute about a dog was reported on 10th Avenue North.

•A vehicle went into the ditch near Kootenay River Bridge off Highway 3.

January 4

•A family member suspected in a break and entry to a 22nd Avenue South residence fled the scene, but was arrested soon after. He was released later with conditions.

•A suspect was warned following a complaint of harassment from 8th Avenue North.

•Police came to the aid of an elderly male on Cavell Street when his mobility scooter broke down.

•A fraud was reported after a resident made an on-line sale and then received a cheque for a greater value than the sale. He was asked to cash the cheque and send the difference to the purchaser. The cheque, of course, was fraudulent.

•An on-going dispute between Birch Street neighbours about parking required police attention.

•A dispute over a loud television was reported on Highway 3 in Erickson.

•A driver reported being tailgated by a semi from Kootenay Pass to Yahk. Pulling over to allow the truck to pass might have solved the problem, Hammond agreed.

January 5

•A reported missing family member was found to be okay. Better than okay, actually, because he was on a plane to Mexico.

•A Hillside Street resident made allegations about another person but then refused to co-operate by providing information.

•An out of control child was reported in Wynndel.

•A wallet found on Simon Road contained a small amount of an illegal drug. The drug was seized and the wallet was returned to the owner.

•A requested well-being check on Canyon Street indicated the resident was missing. He was later found to be at the hospital.

January 6

•A vehicle collided with a deer on Highway 21 near Rykerts.

•Tires were flattened on a vehicle on Erickson Road.

•Police were called to 20th Avenue to resolve a dispute over the “perceived theft of drugs.”

•A ticket has been sent to a driver who passed a stopped school bus on 9th Avenue North.

•A male made threats toward a Canyon Street business.

•A male was arrested on Vancouver Street and faces charges of domestic assault.

•A female behaving strangely at a local hotel was transported to hospital.

•A male reported being asked to help rob a residence, but his would-be partner denied making such a plan.

•A person reported to be pounding on doors and windows at an Elm Street residence was not located.

•A Highway 21 resident reported getting Facebook messages from fake accounts.

•A vehicle collided with an elk on Highway 3 near Kitchener.

January 7

•A stop check of six vehicles on Northwest Boulevard paid off when a driver was found to have consumed an excess of alcohol, leading to a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impoundment.

•An unwanted person was reported in a 20th Avenue North residence.

January 8

•An Erickson resident complained about a mattress being burned in a bonfire.

•A small black pickup was reported to be doing donuts in front of the hospital.

•Three skiers reported to be five hours overdue from an outing near Kootenay Pass came out two hours later and were okay.
