Briefs from the Sept. 24 Creston town council meeting:

•Council received a policing report for the first quarter of 2013 fiscal year from Creston RCMP Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan.

•A letter outlining the town’s inventory of industrial property and availability will be provided to the Agricultural Land Commission for its information as it considers an application to exclude land at 220 Arrowsmith Rd. (west of Highway 21) from the Agricultural Land Reserve.

•A grant of $500 was approved to assist with the operating expenses of the Creston Valley Hospice Society.

•A letter supporting a request to insurance companies to remind homeowners of the need to have working smoke alarms will be sent to the Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments and the Fire Chiefs’ Association of BC.

•Council directed staff to explore the installation of a small sound system for the Spirit of Creston Square on 11th Avenue North at Canyon Street.

•At the request of Coun. Wes Graham, the town will express its support for the federal government to continue with job skills training funding at previous levels.
