Briefs from Tuesday's Creston town council meeting:

•Mayor Ron Toyota was directed to represent Creston at the presentation of a BC Community Achievement Award to Lower Kootenay Band Chief Jason Louie. Louie was one of the 34 recipients to by honoured at Government House in Victoria on March 14.

•Council voted to donate a travel bag to the annual Creston Rotary Club Radio Auction.

•Hillside Street, between 16th and 20th Avenues, will be closed to traffic for the second annual Just ‘Tri’ It Triathlon on June 1 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The request was made by the Creston and District Community Complex.

•Approval was given to allow the use of the parking lot north of Millennium Park for an automotive swap meet on Sept. 21. The swap meet is held in conjunction with a classic car show.

•Creston’s Age Friendly Action Plan was adopted for implementation.

•Toyota, Coun. Tanya Ducharme and engineering manager Colin Farynowski toured the new state-of-the-art waste management recycling plant in Spokane last week. The plant is where recyclable goods placed in local Waste Management bins are ultimately sorted and shipped to various locations for processing.
