Creston RCMP had a slow week that was highlighted by the arrest on Nov. 23 of repeat offender Jason Neil Beaudry, who was only out of jail for a few days before breaching court-ordered conditions.
“We received a report on Monday (Nov. 21) night that he was in a dispute at a someone’s residence,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said this morning. “When police arrived at the scene he ran, issued some threats, then smashed a window in the house to escape.
Police located the multiple violent and sexual offender on the morning of Nov. 23 and arrested him. Beaudry had taken up residence in Yahk after serving his most recent prison sentence. Among the conditions he was subject to was an order not to be outside of his residence while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Beaudry was given a 14-month jail term in Cranbrook provincial court on Nov. 24.
“Fortunately, we have been able to catch him breaching conditions this year and last year, so he hasn’t been able to harm anyone,” Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said on Nov. 28. “Unfortunately, it also means that he isn’t a candidate for dangerous or repeat offender status, so we are in a catch-22 situation. Unless something changes, we expect he will be released sometime next summer.”

Creston police received only 46 calls for service from Nov. 21-27, well below the average number for the year.
November 21
•Police were called to a Cedar Street residence where a couple was involved in a child custody dispute.
•A male who had been consuming alcohol before attempting to enter Canada through the Kingsgate border crossing was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He was also discovered to have an outstanding arrest warrant in Invermere and was held in custody pending a court hearing.
•A semi that attempted to go over Kootenay Pass without chains — a legal no-no at this time of year — got stuck on Highway 3 near Bayonne Creek.
•No injuries were reported after a vehicle that stopped to make a left turn onto Canyon-Lister Road from Highway 3 was rear-ended by a Dodge pickup.
November 22
•Police visited an Ash Street residence to monitor a curfew compliance on behalf of Castlegar RCMP.
•A female has been charged after an investigation of the theft of jewelry from an Erickson Street residence. Some of the jewelry has been recovered.
•An unoccupied residence on 11th Avenue South was the site of an unsuccessful attempted break and enter.
November 23
•The owner of a Volkswagen that was reported to have passed a school bus displaying flashing lights on Northwest Boulevard has been issued a warning.
•A quad that was reported to have been abandoned on Cedar Street was later found to have been stolen from a local residence.
•A female who reported that she had left her purse on a Grey-hound bus got lucky when the purse was located.
November 24
•A vehicle with two parents and two young children rolled over on Highway 3 about 15 kilometres west of Creston. Road conditions were a factor in the crash and the father sustained minor injuries. The others in the vehicle were unhurt.
•RCMP members were called to a dispute between two females arguing about access to an elderly person on Arrow Creek Road.
•Abandoned 911 calls from Kootenay Pass, McMurtry Road, Oliver Road in Gray Creek and Riley Road were received, none of which involved emergencies. The call from Riley Road apparently was made by a sleeping child.
November 25
•A 42-year-old male from Cranbrook attempted to enter Canada through Kingsgate while under the influence of alcohol. He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
•An intoxicated male who was found sitting on the ground outside a Canyon Street pub told police he was there because “it’s nice and warm here.” He was given a ride home.
•A parked vehicle on Riverview Road was sideswiped in a hit and run, apparently by a white vehicle, judging by the marks it left behind.
•A male wearing a white hoodie might have been casing vehicles in the 800 block of Vancouver Street. He ran off when approached by a resident.
November 27
•A vehicle apparently went out of control on Pine Street, bouncing off a parking meter and then hitting the door of a business before driving off. Police are looking for a 1992-1996 Ford F150 or F250. Anyone with information is asked to contact Creston RCMP at 250-428-9313.
•A westbound semi was reported to be driving erratically on Highway 3 in Erickson
