What experiences make you a good candidate for the RDCK board of directors?

Creston Valley has been my home for the past 32 years. Growing up in Lister, living in Canyon and now calling Erickson home, I have a very good understanding of the diversification of our valley and Area B. I have been the alternate director for the past year working with director John Kettle, so I am aware of the current issues that Area B and the other regional directors are facing in our valley. Serving the Town of Creston as an elected councillor for the past two terms, I have the knowledge of municipal governance. I have built strong and positive relationships with other municipalities and regional districts. I understand how to deal with and open doors for opportunities at a provincial level. I own a small business and my professional background in environment, health and safety has given me experience in many different challenging situations. I am passionate about the success of our valley and Area B and am willing to work hard.

What would be your top priority as a director?

From my past experiences on council, I understand that what we say is a priority today can quickly change tomorrow. I am committed to working hard and dealing with the issues that arise and changing priorities when needed. I am excited about representing an area that is strong in agricultural diversity. Agritourism will be a priority, as I want to get the Creston Valley recognized at a provincial level and tap into the resources available with jobs and tourism. As well, with a sawmill in the area, forestry is as important. The Arrow Creek water mainline will be a huge focus and ensuring we stayed dedicated to other infrastructure improvements and being sustainable in our area.

Would you support a move to have all of the Creston Valley included in a single local government, such as a municipal district?

I would definitely support the investigation into a single local government model like a district municipality. I feel that the Creston Valley is unique in that we already have many established joint services, and there could be some great benefits in operating as one at a larger level and within our valley.

How many RDCK/Creston Valley services committee meetings have you attended in 2014?

This is a hard question for me to answer. Being a town councillor and the alternate director, wearing two hats and being involved in many meetings that affect the RDCK and Creston Valley services, let’s just say … a lot, and it's been a busy year.
