Penny A.P. Anderson, Kevin Boehmer, Evelyn Bradford, Jen Comer, Arnold DeBoon, Jim Elford, Daniel Guerts, Lon Hansen, Myrna Johnson, Joe Snopek, Karen Unruh, Ed Vondracek and incumbent Joanna Wilson are running for Creston town council in the Nov. 15 municipal election.
What experience do you have that would make you an effective councillor?
I bring considerable experience, knowledge and versatility from the military and public sector:
•strong varied occupations as a military air traffic controller and engineer. I understand priorities, getting the job done in a safe and cost-effective manner;
•promoting and highlighting community: locally, provincially, nationally and internationally;
•community developer: finding funds for non-profits and community projects;
•looking forward at possibilities for the future of community and our youth;
•developed strong work ethics which see projects through to completion; and
•driven, resourceful, assertive and confident.
I care about my community.
What is your top priority for the next town council?
Recruiting of industry, agritourism, business and expanding future events with the combined effort of the town, chamber of commerce, economic development and the Regional District of Central Kootenay. Council meetings should be televised and scheduled for the evening, so the public can follow our progress.
Should the Creston Valley have a single, locally managed form of government?
No, the reason being there are town issues, improvements, infrastructure and water concerns that are different than rural priorities and needs.
How many council/committee meetings have you attended in 2014?
I have attended one meeting in person. I read the minutes from council that are published/posted, and review and read the town site weekly.
