Veteran offensive lineman Wayne Smith retires

TORONTO — Offensive lineman Wayne Smith, the first player taken in the 2004 CFL draft, retired Friday.

The six-foot-two, 304-pound Toronto native went first overall to Hamilton in 2004. He also played for Saskatchewan and the Argos over his 12-year CFL career.

Smith, 37, appeared in 183 career regular-season games, eight playoff contests and one Grey Cup, that being 2012 with the Argos.

"We'd like to congratulate @WayneSmith52 on a great CFL career and thank him for his contributions to both the #Argos and the community," the Argos said on their official Twitter account.
