After a three-game losing streak in December, the Creston Valley Thunder Cats are back in the winner's circle after two victories on home ice.
In the last game of the year on New Year’s Eve, a tightly tied competition with the Columbia Valley Rockies ended 5-4 in favour of the Thunder Cats.
Brendan Kindlein scored the winning goal against the Rockies in overtime. He led with two goals and an assist, while goalie Brendan Smith made an impressive 39 saves.
The following Saturday, Jan. 4, the Thunder Cats entered overtime yet again tied 1-1 with Quesnel River Rush.
After the opening goal was scored for the River Rush in the third period, Taylor Schmideder responded less than two minutes later and tied up the game. Twenty minutes of overtime saw no action, leading Sanjay Chalupiak to end it all in the shootout. Goalie Smith made another 34 for the Thunder Cats to earn the win, 2-1.
Creston’s record now stands 11-17-2 in 30 games played, leaving the team tied for 15th place in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s standings.
This Thursday, Jan. 9, the Kimberley Dynamiters are invited to the Johnny Bucyk Arena at 7:30 p.m.
