Winter storm warning in effect for Hwy 3

Creston drivers should be advised of conditions from Kootenay Pass to Paulson Summit
storm
A winter storm warning is in effect.

Snow has returned to the Creston Valley for the weekend, and Environment Canada has issued a warning.

A frontal system moving through the Interior will cause heavy snow today and tonight (Jan. 31). Total snowfall of 40 to 50 cm is expected.

Strong southerly winds gusting up to 60 km/h are expected to develop overnight and continue into Saturday morning (Feb. 1) causing poor visibility in blowing snow.

Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult on Highway 3 from Kootenay Pass to Paulson Summit. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Drivers are advised to check road conditions at www.drivebc.ca. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

If visibility is reduced in snowy conditions, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.

Creston residents are asked to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada through the winter months. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca.
