While their season has come to an end, two players for the Creston Valley Thunder Cats have earned recognition for their efforts.
Liam Munro was named Top Forward while Chase Bambrick was selected as Top Defenceman as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Stars of the Weekfor the period ending March 9. Tyson Endall of the 100 Mile House Wranglers rounded out the three stars as Top Goalie.
Munro, of Calgary, Alta., scored two goals and collected six assists, while playing an average of 28:41 a game to help the Thunder Cats go 2-2 against the Kimberley Dynamiters. Munro was a driving force in a 7-2 win on March 3, scoring the opening goal and collecting three assists. In a 6-3 win over the Dynamiters, Munro had two assists. In games five and six, both losses, Munro had a goal and an assist and finished the Teck Cup playoffs with three goals and nine points in six games.
Bambrick, a Creston original, had a goal and seven assists in four games for the Thunder Cats, while playing an average of 26:47 a game. In their 7-2 win over the Dynamiters on March 3, Bambrick was a big factor in that win with four assists, including on the winning goal. In the 6-3 win against the Dynamiters on March 4, Bambrick had another strong performance with a goal and two assists. In the final two games of the series, Bambrick had two assists. He finished the Teck Cup playoffs with a goal and 10 points in six playoff games, which leads the KIJHL.
