Two years after Jack’s wife passed away, he finally decides to follow a map she left for him to find, a map that leads to — what? And why?

As it turns out, Jack is not the only one desperately searching for what’s been hidden — a key — and what it will unlock.

Conrad Schmidt’s debut novel,”Unlocked,” has been released, and is on the shelves. Originally from Creston, now living in Cranbrook, the author describes his work as “a sci-fi fantasy mystery.

“She left him a map to find something, he’s not sure what it is, but he’s been putting it off. When he does finally try to find it, lots of things start to happen, and he’s got to figure out what it is, and what it’s for.”

The fast paced action, the plot, and the dark ambience of “Unlocked” was the result of creative brain-storming and world-building between Schmidt and a friend.

“We passed the story back and forth — everyday after work I kept adding to it,” he said, during a book-signing at Cole’s in Cranbrook recently. And the story came out in the writing, influenced by science fiction and the fantasy mysteries like “Locke and Key.”

Conrad Schmidt’s “Unlocked” (with cover art by the author) is available in Cranbrook at Cole’s, and on Amazon.
