The thunder of dozens of motorcycles rolling through the Kootenays in August has become an annual event — the Rolling Barrage.

The Rolling Barrage, now in its eighth year, hits the road every summer for a coast-to-coast motorcycle ride. The bikers aim to raise awareness of the affliction of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and raise funds for agencies that help sufferers of the condition.

“The Rolling Barrage is not just a ride; it's a movement and a life-changing journey that brings forth positive strengths, courage, resiliency, friendship, and understanding,” reads a statement from the Rolling Barrage PTSD Foundation. “It's about honouring our veterans and first responders, raising awareness about their sacrifices, and providing tangible support through the funds raised.”

This year’s cross-Canada ride kicked off on Saturday, July 27, in St. John's, Newfoundland and will arrive in Creston August 16, and will conclude on August 17 in Aldergrove, B.C. Supporters are encouraged to register and join the ride along the route, attend local events, and contribute to the cause.

Everyone is invited to welcome the riders to Creston on Friday, August 16, as they arrive at the Creston Emergency Services at 9:15 a.m. for a 45-minute break.

The ride has become a symbol of solidarity and support for veterans, first responders, and those who have and continue to serve our country.

The funds raised help support various programs and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of veterans and first responders. These include mental health support services, transition programs, adaptive sports programs, and educational scholarships.

“The Rolling Barrage is proud to see the impact of their efforts each year," said the Rolling Barrage PTSD Foundation. "The generosity of the riders and supporters enables them to make a real difference in the lives of those who have dedicated themselves to serving our communities and our country.”
