Fun was had by all at the recent Wild Chicken Mixed Open Bonspiel hosted by the Creston Curling Club.
The purpose of this bonspiel is to provide a break from January's winter blues. The format is kept fun, inviting, and of course, chicken themed, but still somewhat competitive. On Jan. 11 and 12, teams of all abilities had a chance to play five games for a shot at the finals against curlers of similar levels.
All finals won money, and even the first team out took home prized rubber chickens. There was also a draw to the button contest, where first place this year won a gift certificate for $100 from Julio’s Lounge, and the second place finisher won a frozen chicken.
The winners were: A Event - The Silly Cluckers, B Event - The Pecky Blinders, C Event - The Dumb Sticks, D Event - For Flocks Sake, E Event - The Hatchlings.
Every Thursday night, the Creston Curling Club encourages weekly drop-ins for curlers of all skill levels. For new members the cost is $22 to join and $10 for each week of curling. To try before committing to the club, it's a one-time $11 fee. Arrive at 6:45 p.m. to enter the random selection to be put on a team.
The curling season runs until March 21. Next up, the Ladies Valentine’s Bonspiel “Boot Sweep & Boogie” runs Feb. 7 to 9 and the Men’s Butterfly Bonspiel from Feb. 27 to March 2.
