Environment Canada has issued an alert for southwestern B.C. and the West Kootenays as temperatures this week are expected to reach above 30 C.

The alert was issued on June 8 with temperatures are anticipated to remain high until Wednesday, followed by a gradual cooling trend later in the week.

People are advised to watch out for heat-related illness. Symptoms can include heavy sweating, rash, cramping, and fainting. Early season heat can pose significant risks due to the lack of acclimatization to elevated temperatures.

To help combat the heat, Environment Canada advised people to cover windows with blankets or curtains to block sunlight. Fans can be used to help draw cold air in from outside.
