The Creston Valley Rod & Gun Club is hosting an event for National Range Day.

Communities across B.C. are gearing up to celebrate National Range Day with family-friendly events.

The Creston Valley Rod & Gun Club will take part in the celebration by hosting an open house on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kidd Creek Range, located on Kidd Creek Forest Service Road near Yahk.

National Range Day is held annually on or around the first Saturday in June, giving Canadians a chance to learn about the country’s sport shooting heritage and try their hand at the sport. More than 2.3 million Canadians hold firearms licenses.

"Attending a Range Day event with your friends and neighbours is a great way to introduce them to sport shooting, archery, and hunting in a fun, safe environment,” said Monte Clarke, advocacy co-ordinator with the B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF).

During the event, qualified club members will offer demonstrations on safe firearms handling, host sharpshooting competitions, and answer questions from the public.

The BCWF partners with clubs across the province to operate legal ranges where hunters, competitive shooters, and families alike can gather and share in this aspect of Canadian outdoor culture. These ranges are often operated by local fish and game clubs and are not only used by members, but also serve as training sites for some police departments.
