Pet owners are advised to protect their furry friends by renewing their licences for 2025.
The Town of Creston does not profit from pet license fees. Instead, the funds collected help support Creston's Pet Adoption and Welfare Society (PAWS) through an annual funding partnership. If a licensed pet ever goes missing, this collaboration helps ensure a quick and safe reunion with their family.
At a recent council meeting on Jan. 14, councillors agreed to amend the Fees and Charges Bylaw to offer a free one-year pet licence with each cat or dog adoption through PAWS.
The hope is this amendment will streamline the adoption process and help to promote responsible pet ownership. By educating the public to increase license compliance, this will also improve the town's ability to manage animal-related services.
If a pet is being registered for the first time, is over six months old in Creston, and has been spayed/neutered, a veterinarian’s certificate is required.
Visit Town Hall to pay the dues or fill out an application. Licences expire on Dec. 31 and must be renewed annually. Fees increase for annual renewals after March 31 but are reduced by 50 per cent for any pet homed after Aug. 31.
